Assistant Adminstrator Wins CALA 'Outstanding Department Director'!

Jerry giving a speech talking about why Carol deserves the award.
A big congratulations to Carol Pegg, our assistant administrator and marketing director. Carol was nominated for and won the Colorado Assisted Living Association (CALA) Excellence in Service Award for Outstanding department Director!

The judges were looking for someone who has gone above and beyond in demonstrating their exceptional commitment to Colorado's Assisted Living residents through their role by demonstrating a commitment to self-betterment, example setting, excellence in meeting the needs of their staff and their adult population, and exemplify the CALA values of:

  • People in need of assistance and their right to make choices
  • Our members and their calling to missions of service
  • Our employees and volunteers and the informal networks of family, friends and neighbors who support them
  • Accountability to our communities
  • Reinvestment of our resources in our communities
  • Integrity, collaboration, innovation and creativity
  • Prudent stewardship of resources

  • Carol has a warm, caring nature and all our residents and staff love and appreciate her. She puts the needs of others first, and is an inspiration her family, friends, and the staff.

Carol joined our Park Regency staff at the end of November 2007. Prior to coming to Park Regency, Carol worked in residential property management, where she worked for 12 years in both Denver and in Longmont. Before that she spent 10 years working in the jewelry industry. Many years back, she taught preschool and at one time ran her own business from home. Carol lives in Loveland with her husband and they have been blessed with eight grandchildren. Their 10-year-old grandson lives with them. Five of their other grandchildren live just around the corner from them. Their other two grandchildren live much further away in Nebraska. Carol truly enjoys her time here at Park Regency. In her spare time, she enjoys crocheting afghans, sewing, and baking cookies and cakes for all of her grandchildren, family, and friends.

The Importance of Guarding Against Infections

We want to remind everyone that you have a responsibility to know when you are infectious and capable of spreading whatever infection you have. That includes colds, flu, and virus infections. You can spread colds and/or flu through breathing, coughing, and sneezing. Viruses are spread mostly through contact by touching surfaces. If you are throwing up and have diarrhea, you have a virus and everything you touch can transmit that virus to someone else.

The incubation period of a virus is up to two days before you show symptoms and you are contagious up to two days after your symptoms have ceased. While you are contagious with any infection, you have an obligation to isolate yourself from others, especially the senior population, who often have weakened immune systems and for who contracting a virus can be much more serious. With colds, you could wear a face mask to protect others.

If you visit and are healthy, we ask that you sanitize your hands before and after visiting, to protect yourself and others.

    April Events

Once again, Park Regency Assisted Living in Loveland invites all Northern Colorado seniors to come and participate in any and all of our activities. Here are some of the events and activities coming up in April.
    Passover Seder
    Wednesday, April 11th, 2012
    11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Once again, our administrator, Jerry Bootzin, will lead our annual Passover Seder in celebration of the Jewish people being freed from Egypt. This dinner is celebrated by Jews and Christians as well throughout the world. In fact, Jesus' "last supper" was a Passover Seder. During this email and short service, the participants will partake in wine, matzo, boiled eggs, horseradish, charosis (a mixture of dates and nuts), baked chicken, matzo ball chicken soup, vegetable greens, gefilta fish, and macaroons. The story of the Passover is retold during this dinner and service. All residents and family members are invited to attend at no charge but reservations are required as space is limited. Please make your reservations with our receptionist by visiting the front desk or calling: (970) 461-1100.

    Low-Vision Support Group Begins
    Thursday, April 12, 2012
    1:30 PM
Continuation: The second Thursday of every month.

Starting Thursday, April 12, Disabled Resource Services is proud to host a Vision After 55 Low-Vision Support Group. This is a great program for people who have some kind of low- or no-vision problems. They will help supply items you might need, discuss any issues you might have, or, if you just need to talk out your frustrations, they will be available. This is going to be great because people always have questions about how to live with the sight they have. This will be held every month on the second Thursday from April 12th on. Penn Street and Sharon Bottoms will host, and we encourage everyone to come and join this special group. It is a benefit if you have good sight or not. It is going to be a great tool that we are glad to have provided for you here at Park Regency.

    Cliff Spratt Performs
    Friday, April 13, 2012
    2:00-3:00 PM

Cliff Sprat performed for our Luau last summer and has been a friend of our activity director, Sue, for over 10 years. He is a wonderful one-man band and we are proud to have Cliff back to perform once again. He has written and performed songs for 9News. He is always a pleasure to have perform and does a wonderful job when he performs. Family and friends are welcome to attend this wonderful event.

    High Country Dancers
    Saturday, April 21, 2012
    2:00-3:00 PM

Come and join us on Saturday, April 21, for the return of the High Country Dancers. They are always a pleasure to watch. Everyone enjoys their performances whenever they come. Their costumes are gorgeous, they are fun and always a huge hit. We are very proud to have them back to perform once again. All family and friends are welcome to attend the program.

Loveland Historical Society member Sharon Danhauer presents a slideshow on the history of Loveland on March 7th, 2012, at 2PM.
The presentation will focus on the first permanent settler in the Big Thomas Valley. Mariano Medina was quite a character--an old mountain man and a famous frontiersman. Please come and join us for this colorful and entertaining afternoon.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day and the Luck of the Irish on Saturday, March 17th, 2012, at 2PM.
Jim Turner and Sue Stormo will perform some good ole Irish tunes, as well as some old-time favorites for everyone to enjoy. Refreshments will be served. Feel free to invite family and friends to join the celebration!

    Other news:

    Hardcover book wanted
Our library is looking for hardcover books to add to our library. We would like to rotate out some of the books we have had for years. Mysteries, adventure, and romance novels do well with our residents. We also have a section of religious inspirational books. Reader's Digest in hard cover would be welcome. Please no paperbacks unless like new and no magazines including National Geographic. If you would like to drop some books off, you can leave them at the front desk. Thank you for any consideration you can give this request. We need to keep our resident librarian busy.

Jerry and Judy's Trip to Israel
Our administrator and his wife (our nurse) are traveling to Israel in a few weeks and as part of that trip they will visit Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall. They are accepting written prayer requests on a 2" square piece of paper that can be folded into a 1" square that can then be inserted between the stones of the wall by Jerry and Judy. Precut prayer request cards are available at the front desk. Please see our receptionist to get a card or to turn in your prayer request. The requests need to be in by March 10th, 2012.

Reminder: This Thursday, February 16th, at 6:12 PM, we will have a discussion with the administrator in the dining room. Our administrator, Jerry Bootzin, will be reviewing in detail the quality control issues we have been studying and how the results have impacted the daily lives of our residents and staff as we implement new policies and procedures this month. All residents and family members are invited. Refreshments will be served.
